What is a "sponge" group performance?

It is a flashmob-movement-training-playful-meditation... reinventing our plasticity in the public space.

Awareness of simple physical sensations and interactions between body/space will be the fundamentals of this group practice: pressure, weight, momentum, balance/off-balance, gravity, space in-between people, heart pulse, spine dance, cellular breathing, resilience… Elasticity!

The spongiform participants will have an emerging awareness of play and experiment with the dynamism between absorbing, holding, being full and releasing.

"Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. Instead, most rely on maintaining a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food, oxygen and remove wastes." (Wikipedia)

Parasite-Specifique#2

Improvisation/Composition Laboratory
on the riverside - Phnom Penh

Dance, physical theatre, music, sound, poetry, clowning, visual arts...

Every saturday morning from 8am to 11am

Location : Riverside, in front of night market

Every saturday morning, from 8am to 10am, we'll explore our environment through individual and group improvisations, then create short site-specific performances.

Using interdisciplinary improvisation techniques, we’ll find out how to creatively "resonate" with the landscape, architecture and specific vibration of a site to create unique work.

We will start together on the riverside, in front of night market; with a grounding and energizing warm-up using Contact Improvisation, Post-Modern Dance, rhythmic and vocal call and response... We will allow ourselve to discover new paths of sensing, moving and engaging what is around us.
We’ll look for effortless movements, relaxation and awakeness in our minds too, space in our joints, fluids in-between… so that we can enjoy whatever arises…
and compose some solos, duos... group performances...

Later there will be space to reflect together about our experiences as a group and for ourselves.

These sessions are free : they are designed for committed people who want to practice improvisation and develop their performance skills and/or take part in site-specific projects in Phnom Penh and elsewhere... one of our goals with these sessions is to create a performance collective trained to perform in any public space...

Laboratoire d'Improvisation/Composition

Saturday, July 2 · 4:00pm - 6:30pm

Location
Monique's place, Amrita dance studio, 235b, st 19. And around.

From 4pm to 6.30pm, we explored our environment through individual and group improvisations.

We started together at the studio; with exercises to become more aware of the space inside, around us and the spaces between us.
We did a "leader/follower" group exercise and continued with improvisations in duos about changing our muscular tones (from level 0 to level 10).

Then some of us moved outside, experienced and connected with the environment nearby.
At the end, there was space to reflect together about our experiences as a group and for ourselves : "what is level 0 in tone exercise?" was the main question that took our attention.
Warm thanks to all participants, Monique, Marco&Pisey, Fleur, Cannelle, Lyno, Lina (thanks for the photos), Vollak, Rady and Amrita.
